UK Weekend Breaks - York
We are very fortunate that our travel agency is located in the wonderful city of York and thus feel compelled to share the secrets of historic York with the rest of the world wide web.
Now is a great time to consider a weekend break to York after the city was voted European Tourism City of the Year at an awards ceremony in Athens for 2007. York beat Gothenburg into second place with Valencia trailing in third. The judges were particularly impressed with York’s world class attractions such as the Gothic York Minster, the National Railway Museum, Jorvik Museum and its finely preserved City Walls as well as excellent hotels, restaurants, bars and traditional inns.
York’s location also puts it in a strong position - London is just a 2 hour rail journey - and with excellent road links it is a very accessible destination for visitors from across the United Kingdom.
Full credit must go to local efforts to make the most of York with regular events and festivals for which York has become renowned for. Later this week sees for instance the annual Viking Festival between the 13th and 17th February 2008 which includes a Viking Market, Ghost walks, and culminated on Saturday evening with the Evening Battle: Light and Sound Spectacular featuring Anglo Saxons versus Vikings!
If you can’t make this event there are many other festivals in York to choose from so why not incorporate one with a weekend break in York?
