The Northern Lights

A new arrival in the office today was the latest brochure from the Norwegian cruise line Hurtigruten. Hurtigruten translates as ‘fast route’ and was coined in the early days of the company back in the 19th century when the company began it’s life carrying passengers, mail and supplies along the Norwegian coastline to over 30 ports. The service was a lifeline, especially during the Winter months, and continues to this day with Hurtigruten.

Their latest offering provides the opportunity to experience the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) with their celestial displays of greens, yellow and reds displayed against the backdrop of the arctic night sky. As well as this stunning phenomena, you will also have the chance to see some fantastic nature in the form of Orca, huskies in a dog-sledge safari, ice hotels, ice caves in the realm of the polar bear or snwomobile across frozen lands.

Flights are available from many UK regional airports and you will be able to incorporate visits to Bergen, Oslo, Tromso, Kirkenes, Trondheim and other Norwegian towns.

Hurtigruten also provide a number of special interest cruises which may cover subjects such as Bridge, Art and Watercolours, Winter Digital Photography and Harmony at Sea, which will all allow you the opportunity to develop your creative skills whilst sailing along the stunning Norwegian coast.
