Recognition for the Antonine Wall

UNESCO have announced that the Antonine Wall, which once cut across Scotland from the Forth to the Clyde, is to be given UNESCO World Heritage status which puts it on a par with other great historic monuments such as Machu Picchu in Peru and the Egyptian Pyramids.

The wall was built by the Roman army around 140AD to keep the Scottish tribes at bay, and despite the onward march of progress it has managed to retain a good two thirds of the wall and it has been recognised that the wall is one of the most important Roman relics still intact. When in use it was the most northerly Roman outpost in the empire and to date has been overshadowed by its more famous cousin - Hadrian’s Wall - to the South.

If visiting Scotland why not take in the Antonine Wall and if you need a hotel in Scotland try this link.
