Air Passenger Duty To Rise

The Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne has confirmed that APD is set to rise by around 10% in April 2012, further hitting air passengers in the pocket.

In his Autumn Statement Mr Osborne declared: “Air Passenger Duty (APD) rates will increase from 1 April 2012, as set out at the Budget 2011.”

The increase  Air Passenger Duty (APD) is double the inflation rate and is to be implemented next year after freezing the tax this year. The tax has been criticised by the travel and tourism trades for hitting tourism in long-haul destinations such as the Caribbean
