Kipoureon Monastery, also known as Panagia Kipouriani or the Virgin Mary of Kipoura, was built in 1627 and is located on a hill near Lixouri, about 10 km from Argostoli. The monastery is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and features stunning views of the Ionian Sea from its position atop a steep hillside. Inside the main building, visitors can admire the beautiful frescoes which were painted by local artists in 1782.
The interior of the church consists of two chambers; one contains the icons while the other contains several tombs belonging to prominent figures from Lixouri and other parts of Greece.
