Everyone loves a good festival and there is no better way to sample the rich culture that a country has to offer, and here is a list of a few our favourite Canadian festivals to get you in the festive mood.

Marda Gras Street Festival, Calgary – 14th August 

Calgary’s Marda Gras is a fun filled, family friendly festival that attracts over 35,000 visitors each year. You can experience the streets of Marda Loop come alive with the sights, sounds food and culture of New Orleans.

Canadian National Exhibition, Toronto – 19th August to 5th September

A very popular end of summer ritual is the Canadian National Exhibition, offering amazing air shows, fairground rides, and celebrity chef demonstrations. You can also enjoy live music and comedy acts, shopping pavilions, food halls and the now-infamous Ribfest.

Vancouver Fringe Festival – 8th to 18th September

The Vancouver Fringe is a celebration of “theatre for everyone” and features more than 800 performances by more that 90 artists over 11 days. The main stage shows are literally drawn out of a hat.

CityFolk Festival, Ottawa – 14th to 18th September

CityFolk prides itself on bringing together an exciting mix of contemporary and popular folk, bluegrass, rock and blues acts. This years headliners include James Bay, Skinny Lister, Dean Brody and Lake Street Dive.

Oyster Festival, Halifax – 1st October 

Celebrate Nova Scotia oysters on the city’s beautiful waterfront with a good helping of the local wine and beer and brilliant line up of live DJ’s. At the Oyster Festival you can even indulge in a spot of oyster-shucking.

L’Off Jazz, Montreal – 1st to 10th October 

L’Off Jazz showcases the true diversity of the region’s jazz scene with more than 150 musicians and 27 concerts across nine venues throughout the city.

St John’s Women’s Film Festival – 18th to 22nd October

The St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival is one of the world’s longest running women’s film festivals. The festival also includes an International Film Forum of keynote addresses, seminars and workshops.

Christmas Market, Toronto – 18th November to 21st December

Celebrate the magic and spirit of Christmas at this traditional Toronto Christmas Market. It is ranked one of the top 10 Holiday Markets in the World, the Toronto Christmas Market offers a wide range of traditional festive arts and crafts, delicious samples of Yuletide cuisine, a chance to walk around the distillery, and an amazing festive atmosphere with live music and dancing.
