Alcudia is a lovely resort on the north coast of Majorca, situated 62km south of the island’s capital Palma. Alcudia is the largest area of tourism in Majorca, particularly popular with families, couples and younger tourists especially in peak summer months. The market town, the large tourist area together with the popular resort of Puerto de Alcudia are found in the North of Majorca in the municipality of Alcudia. The journey from Palma Airport takes around 1 hour by car or taxi and has improved greatly since the development of the motorway and dual carriageway straight to the resort. The resort itself is spread either side of the Ma-12 northern coast road, and does not have a centre or focal point like most resorts do.
The original old town of Alcudia is only 2 miles inland from the coastal resort, and is definitely worth visiting. With parts of the town dating back to around 1300, the old town is full of history and character, with narrow streets and impressive city walls. There is a great 2 hour guided walking tour around the old town organised by the local tourist office so visitors can really take in the sights and appreciate the beauty of the place.
The warm shallow waters of Alcudia Bay and the beautiful beach make this resort a great place for families with young children to spend their holiday. The beach is great with watersports and white, fine sand, and facilities to suit all tastes. Wherever you are on the beach, you are never more than a few 100 metres away from a beach cafe or bar.
Alcudia is not a loud resort, and evening entertainment in this resort is mainly hotel based. The resort, however, does have a small number of late night bars and clubs. There is a good balance of nightlife, making it an ideal holiday destination for families and couples.
