An American billionaire casino developer has indicated he wishes to create a new ‘mini Las Vegas strip’ in Spain.
Reuters has reported that Sheldon Adelson, the chairman and chief executive of Las Vegas Sands Corp, has indicated that he would like to develop a new casino development in either Barcelona or Madrid.
Mr Adelson made his announcement just ahead of the opening of his new $4 billion casino development in Macau.
In the report from Reuters, Mr Adelson said “We are looking at 12 integrated resorts, with 3,000 rooms each. A mini Las Vegas, about half the size of the Las Vegas strip in Spain for the European market,”. He went to explain that each building would cost between $2.5 and $3 billion and that he would be targeting European customers, and people from Russia and the CIS.
Last February, Las Vegas Sands announced that it was studying an investment of as much as €15 billion over 10 years in a casino complex in Spain and that it would include 36,000 hotel beds, 18,000 slot machines and three golf courses.
