One of the most anticipated and major events on Saint Lucia’s calendar is Saint Lucia Jazz, the Carribbean’s leading music festival and this year they are celebrating their 21st anniversary. Saint Lucia Jazz is set to run from April 30 to May 13 and is a showcase for world class artists in Jazz, Soul, R’n’B and Reggae.
During the month of May, the island dances to the beat of jazz when music fills the air and tourism takes on a whole new meaning. The jazz festival started as a simple marketing event to boost the tourism industry during the quiet season and has now progressed into a truly Saint Lucian Festival.
Each year as the month of May approaches, Saint Lucia Jazz continues to draw attention to Saint Lucia as the world eagerly awaits yet another star studded line-up. With more side attractions such as supporting jazz performances added In 1999, a more festive atmosphere has been created and allows the Saint Lucian public and tourists to participate in these events at little cost with quite a few free events included as well. “Jazz in the South” with shows being in the village of Laborie and the towns of Vieux Fort and Soufriere all contribute towards making Saint Lucia Jazz a truly Saint Lucian experience for visitors and locals alike.
The main stage acts perform at the historic Pigeon Island National Park which includes this year Grammy Award winner Lionel Richie, Kirk Franklin, The Gypsy Kings, Ziggy Marley, Keri Hilson, Melanie Fiona and Hugh Masekela plus many more.
