One of the most popular events in the St. Lucia calendar is the annual St. Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival which in 2015 will be staged between 30 April and 10 May at various locations across the island.
The St. Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival has attracted globally renowned artists from across the globe including artists including Diana Ross, John Legend and Rihanna. Atlyn Forde, director of marketing for the St. Lucia Tourist Board, describes the festival as St. Lucia’s very own Glastonbury but without the mud and need for wellies!
The festival is more than just about the headline artists. The widespread locations of the venues means the whole island gets involved. And for those who arrive for just a short time, such as cruise ship passengers arriving in the capital of Castries, events such as “Jazz on the Square” are extremely accessible.
One of the more endearing aspects of the St. Lucia Arts and Jazz Festival is it allows the audience to get closer and more intimate with the performers. Rodney Bay is host to Fire Grill Jazz which takes place at the Fire Grill Steakhouse & Lounge Bar and allows jazz fans to enjoy fabulous jazz whilst dining or relaxing the venue’s bar. Soufriere has been described as the epitome of village jazz as well as hosting various events such as Jazz on the Waterfront, Sulphur Springs Jazz held at the world renowned and only drive-in-Volcano and Jazz at Fond Gens Libre.
The 2015 St. Lucia Arts and Jazz Festival has announced another stellar lineup of artists including Robin Thicke, Flo Rida, Jimmy Cliff, John Secada, Timbalive, Alain Jean-Marie and Krosfyah. With some great places across the island to stay, a holiday to St. Lucia provides the opportunity to get some Caribbean sunshine whilst soaking up the jazz vibes on offer in St. Lucia this year.
