After checking in we quickly headed off in a minibus to the Kata Beach area of Karong to the Phuket Easy Thai Cooking school, with a stop enroute at a Thai market to choose ingredients for the Thai dishes which we about to make.
So the Thai cookery course is led by a local guide and includes pickup from your hotel and transferred to the cooking school, where you learn to cook three Thai main meals as well as Thai curry paste and a dessert. Its a great introduction for first time visitors and the food we prepared was absolutely amazing. Thai Green Curry (Kang Keaw Wan) was the best I have ever tasted and it was so satisfying to know I had cooked this myself (with expert tuition I have to say). The guide will advise about the heat of the dishes (red chillis are hotter than green ones) and sweetness, sourness etc, all the things which make Thai food to amazing.
We also cooked a soup, Tom Yam Kung, which was a hot and sour soup which included King Prawns (delicious, but you can substitute for chicken if preferred). The ingredients are fascinating and you may need to visit a Chinese market in the UK to obtain some , although many ingredients for Oriental cooking are becoming more commonplace in British supermarkets.
The third dish was a fabulous dish which included Rice Noodles, Pad Thai. Its a famous Thai dish and really quick to make as well as being absolutely delicious.
Of course the added bonus is that after cooking all of this lovely Thai food you get to eat it!! The tuition is hands on and the guide will show you how to create great Thai food, you just have to follow her instructions.
We can add a Thai cookery lesson to your itinerary when you book your holiday to Thailand with Conexo Travel (we can offer Thai cooking lessons in other regions of Thailand not just Phuket), just get in touch to find out more.
