In June 2015 we spent a week in Italy. After visiting Venice for 3 nights we took a rail journey from Venice to Viareggio, which involved a change of trains in Firenze (Florence).
The weather in Viareggio was perfect, very warm but with a lovely breeze coming off the ocean. Viareggio is a lovely Italian seaside resort with a long promenade along which are many shops restaurants and bars. Behind these are the beach clubs which give access to Viareggio’s long sandy beachfront.
On our first night we were drawn to Traversa 19 as we strolled down Viareggio’s promenade as the music of George Benson was being played in the bar. So we sat down outside and enjoyed an hour or so of great music and were served drinks and snacks by the welcoming and friendly bar staff of Traversa 19 Viareggio.
We enjoyed visiting Traversa 19 so much we returned every evening and would encourage other visitors to Viareggio to do so, particularly if you enjoy a soulful jazz style of music.
The highlight of our visits was a live jazz set by a great trio who entertained the audience with a great range of jazz music. They chatted to the audience (in Italian, so no good to us sadly) who seemed to enjoy the humour and explanation of the band’s work.
Traversa 19 does serve food but we can’t comment as we didn’t eat there. But we can vouch for the warmth of the welcome and the ambience all in a lovely outdoor setting – a great place to spend a warm summer’s evening.
