York has long been known for its long history in chocolate making, and with July 2012 marking 150 years since the Rowntree family started their cocoa business in York, what better time to open a new visitor attraction devoted to the most famous and most delicious of our chocolates and sweets.
‘York’s Sweet Story’ which opened in April 2012, takes you on a mouth-watering adventure through a celebration of the story of chocolate and confectionery in York. Watch how they are made and hear the stories behind the brands with which we have all grown up. Located in King’s Square close to the centre of York, York’s Sweet Story traces the history of chocolate making in York through Rowntrees Terrys and Cravens.
With excellent interactive displays and historic films it gives you a chance to see how chocolate is made and taste the results.
You can meet the founding families of York’s confectionery industries, pay a visit to The Chocolate Bar where you can indulge your passion for chocolate and treat yourself and your family to a delicious range of chocolatey goodies on the chocolate-themed menu, including chocolate drinks and cakes. York’s Sweet Story is a great addition to York’s attractions.
