★★★★★Paradisus by Meliá Salinas Lanzarote
Avenida Islas Canarias, Costa Teguise, 35509
Sandy bays, a relaxed seafront and easy airport transfers on Lanzarote's east coast, with 25 hotels, apartments and villas to choose from.

Costa Teguise is the smallest of Lanzarote's three main resorts and the closest to the capital, Arrecife. It was laid out with input from César Manrique, the artist who shaped so much of the island, so it is low-rise and green, with whitewashed buildings, palm-lined avenues and a promenade linking a string of small sandy bays. It is a popular choice for families, watersports and golf.
Costa Teguise is compact, but each part of the resort has a different feel. Each card shows which part it is in.
The north end, around the resort's largest beach. Busiest for watersports, with several large hotels and resorts.
Around the sheltered Jablillo bay and Pueblo Marinero, the old-style square with bars and restaurants. Handy for everything.
The quieter south-west end along Avenida del Mar, near Playa Bastián and on the way to Arrecife.

Costa Teguise is a good choice if you want an easy, relaxed beach holiday with plenty for children to do. Transfers are short, the resort is compact enough to walk around, and the beaches range from calm, sheltered bays to the breezier Playa de las Cucharas, one of the island's best spots for windsurfing. The Aquapark, the Lanzarote Aquarium and an 18-hole golf course are all on the doorstep.
It is less suited to anyone after a big nightlife scene, and because it faces the trade winds it can feel breezier than the south of the island. The breeze keeps summer days comfortable, but sun lovers who want the calmest conditions may prefer Playa Blanca.
Lanzarote's three main resorts are all within an hour of each other. This is how Costa Teguise compares.
| Resort | Atmosphere | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Costa Teguise | Compact, low-rise and relaxed, on the breezier east coast | Families, watersports, golf, short transfers |
| Puerto del Carmen | The island's largest and liveliest resort, with a long beach and strip of bars and restaurants | Nightlife, choice of eating out, long beach walks |
| Playa Blanca | Calm and spread out at the southern tip, with an upmarket marina | Couples, families, the Papagayo beaches |
The resort's largest beach, a long curve of golden sand at the north end. Popular with windsurfers, with sunbeds, cafés and watersports schools behind it.
A small, sheltered bay in the centre, protected by a breakwater, so the water is usually calm. A favourite with families with young children.
A quieter beach at the south-west end of the resort, with golden sand and volcanic rock, backed by the promenade.
A small beach between the centre and Las Cucharas, with sand and rock pools to explore at low tide.
Pueblo Marinero is the heart of the resort in the evening, with restaurants and bars set around a pretty square. You will also find cafés and restaurants along the promenade and near Playa de las Cucharas, serving everything from tapas and fresh fish to international dishes. Look out for local favourites such as papas arrugadas with mojo sauce, grilled goat's cheese and wines from Lanzarote's La Geria vineyards.
Many hotels in Costa Teguise are half board or all inclusive, so the choice in town is smaller than in Puerto del Carmen, but Arrecife's waterfront restaurants are only a short taxi ride away.
Yes, especially if you want a relaxed, family-friendly resort that is quick to reach from the airport. It was planned with input from the Lanzarote artist César Manrique, so it is low-rise and tidy, with whitewashed buildings, palm-lined streets and a choice of small sandy beaches along a seafront promenade.
Yes. The sheltered beaches at El Jablillo and Playa Bastián suit younger children, the Aquapark and Lanzarote Aquarium are both in the resort, and many hotels have family pools, kids' clubs and all inclusive options.
It is one of Lanzarote's breezier resorts, as it faces the north-east trade winds. That keeps summer days comfortable and makes Playa de las Cucharas popular for windsurfing. The smaller beaches, such as El Jablillo, are more sheltered.
Costa Teguise is smaller and quieter, with a more laid-back feel and good watersports. Puerto del Carmen is bigger and livelier, with a longer beach and far more bars and restaurants. Both are close to the airport.
Lanzarote Airport (ACE) is around 15 km away, and the transfer usually takes around 15 to 20 minutes. The capital, Arrecife, is about 10 minutes away by road.
Playa de las Cucharas is the largest and busiest, and the place for windsurfing. For calm water and young children, Playa del Jablillo is a sheltered bay protected by a breakwater. Playa Bastián, at the south-west end, is quieter.
Evenings are relaxed. The bars and restaurants around Pueblo Marinero, the old-style square in the centre, have live music most nights, and hotels run their own entertainment. For late nights, Puerto del Carmen is the better choice.
A small craft market is held in Pueblo Marinero on Friday evenings. On Sundays, the island's biggest market takes over the old town of Teguise, around 15 minutes inland, from about 9am to 2pm.
Yes. Costa Teguise Golf is an 18-hole course on the edge of the resort, with views out to sea and across the volcanic landscape.
Beaches, watersports and diving, the Aquapark, the Lanzarote Aquarium and golf in the resort, plus easy trips to the César Manrique Foundation, the Cactus Garden, Jameos del Agua and the Sunday market in Teguise.
