Golden beaches, a smart marina and calm evenings at the sunny southern tip of Lanzarote, with 35 hotels, apartments and villas to choose from.

Playa Blanca grew from a small fishing village into Lanzarote's most relaxed major resort. It sits on the southern coast facing Fuerteventura, with a promenade that links the town beaches, the harbour and the Marina Rubicón yacht marina. The protected Papagayo beaches, often called the finest on the island, are just to the east.
Playa Blanca is long and fairly spread out, with the old harbour and town beach in the middle, so it is worth choosing your side of the resort as well as your hotel. Each card shows which side it is on.
Around Playa Dorada, Marina Rubicón and Las Coloradas, plus the streets running uphill behind them. Closest to the Papagayo beaches and the marina restaurants.
Around Playa Flamingo, Montaña Roja and the Pechiguera lighthouse. Quieter, with sunset views and several large resorts.

Playa Blanca is a good choice if you want a calm, sunny beach holiday with a little more polish than a typical resort strip. The beaches are sheltered, the promenade is ideal for an evening stroll, and Marina Rubicón adds boutiques, waterside restaurants and a twice-weekly market. Many visitors come back year after year.
It is less suited to anyone after a big nightlife scene, and it is the furthest of the main resorts from the airport. The resort is spread along several kilometres of coast and some hotels sit on higher ground, so check the area before you book if you want to walk to the beach or the shops.
Lanzarote's three main resorts are all within an hour of each other. This is how Playa Blanca compares.
| Resort | Atmosphere | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Playa Blanca | Relaxed, modern and spread out, with an upmarket marina | Families, couples, beach and boat trips |
| Puerto del Carmen | The island's largest and liveliest resort, with a long strip of bars and restaurants | Nightlife, choice of eating out, short transfers |
| Costa Teguise | Smaller and breezier, on the east coast near the capital, Arrecife | Water sports, golf, exploring the north of the island |
The main family beach on the east side. A breakwater keeps the water calm, and sunbeds, cafés and the promenade are right behind the sand.
A small, central beach beside the old harbour, handy for a quick swim between shops and lunch. Ferries pass close by, so keep belongings back from the water's edge.
A palm-lined, sheltered beach on the west side, protected by breakwaters and popular with families staying near Montaña Roja.
A string of golden coves, including Playa Mujeres and Playa de Papagayo, inside the Los Ajaches protected area. Unspoilt, with very few facilities.
The promenade and the old harbour are lined with restaurants serving fresh fish, tapas and international dishes, while Marina Rubicón has a wider choice of waterside dining, from casual pizza to smarter seafood restaurants. Look out for local favourites such as papas arrugadas with mojo sauce, grilled cheese with palm honey, and wines from Lanzarote's volcanic La Geria vineyards.
Many hotels in Playa Blanca are half board or all inclusive, so the choice in town is smaller than in Puerto del Carmen, but there is still plenty to try. For our favourites, read our top 5 restaurants in Playa Blanca.
Yes, for most people looking for a relaxed beach holiday. It is a modern, well-kept resort at the southern tip of Lanzarote with three sheltered town beaches, a long seafront promenade, the Marina Rubicón harbour and the Papagayo beaches close by. It is quieter than Puerto del Carmen, so it suits couples and families more than people looking for late-night clubs.
Yes. Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo are protected by breakwaters, so the water is usually calm for children, and many of the hotels are large resorts with family pools, entertainment and all inclusive options. The flat promenade is easy with a pushchair.
It depends on the holiday you want. Puerto del Carmen is bigger and livelier, with a long strip of bars and restaurants and a shorter airport transfer. Playa Blanca is calmer and more spread out, with better access to the Papagayo beaches and a more upmarket feel around Marina Rubicón.
Lanzarote Airport (ACE) is around 35 km from Playa Blanca. The transfer usually takes around 35 to 40 minutes by road, depending on your hotel.
In the resort itself, Playa Dorada is the most popular for its calm water and golden sand, and Playa Flamingo is a good choice on the west side. For scenery, most visitors rate the Papagayo beaches, a few kilometres east of town, as the best on the island.
You can walk from the east side of Playa Blanca along the coast path, drive along an unsurfaced track inside the Los Ajaches protected area (there is a small charge per car at the entrance), or take a boat from Marina Rubicón. Facilities are limited, so take water and shade.
The Marina Rubicón market is held every Wednesday and Saturday morning, usually from 9am to 2pm, with stalls along the harbour selling crafts, clothing, jewellery and local produce.
Evenings are relaxed rather than loud. You will find bars with live music along the promenade and around Marina Rubicón, and most hotels run their own entertainment, but there are few late-night clubs. Puerto del Carmen is the better choice for nightlife.
Lanzarote has a steady breeze for much of the year, which keeps it comfortable in summer. Playa Blanca, at the southern tip, is generally one of the more sheltered resorts, and the breakwaters at Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo help keep the beaches calm.
Yes. Ferries run several times a day from Playa Blanca harbour to Corralejo in Fuerteventura, and the crossing takes under an hour, which makes it an easy day trip.
