ABTA Is Urging UK Travellers To Check European Passport Rules

ABTA is reminding travellers to Europe that passport rules can be tricky, and unfortunately, some people are still being caught out by changes introduced over four years ago.

If you're planning a trip to the Schengen Area (which includes most European countries, plus Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican City), your passport must meet these two key requirements:

  1. Issue Date: It must have been issued within the last 10 years.

  2. Expiry Date: It must be valid for at least three months after the date you plan to leave the country.

This means you need to check both the issue date and expiry date carefully.

ABTA's Four-Step Passport Check:

  1. Check FCDO Travel Advice: Visit the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) website for the latest passport requirements for your destination.

  2. 10-Year Rule: Ensure your passport was issued within the last 10 years.

  3. 3-Month Rule: Confirm your passport is valid for at least three months after your planned return date.

  4. Renew Your Passport: If your passport needs renewing, apply online at Gov.UK for the quickest and most cost-effective method.

At Conexo Travel, we understand the importance of these rules. We have helped numerous travellers avoid costly and distressing situations by carefully checking their passport validity before booking. Our experienced team will guide you through the requirements and ensure you have all the necessary documentation in place for a smooth and stress-free journey.

Graeme Buck, ABTA Director of Communications, says: "Following these four simple steps can save you from disappointment and ensure you can travel without any issues. This is especially important if your passport is nearing its expiry date."

Book with confidence with Conexo Travel. Contact us today to plan your next European adventure.

Remember: This information is for general guidance only and may change over time. Always refer to the latest FCDO travel advice for the most up-to-date information.
